ADS Autoinform Training Prospectus
Vehicle electrical systems, Voltage, Current & Measurements
1 day course
This course is aimed at technicians wishing to pursue a successful career in diagnostics. The introductory module introduces the critical key skills required to progress to further specialist courses, or can be a standalone course for service technicians wishing to increase confidence in test technique.
- Choice of tools
- Battery Testing and technology
- Voltage & Current measurement
- Component testing
- Scan Tools
Scan Tools-Serial Data Analysis
1 Day course
Probably the most important first tool to choose in a diagnostic process, yet often, misleading data leads to incorrect decisions in repair. Avoid lost time fitting parts that are not required or parts that fail prematurely. If you don’t fix it first time, you will end up paying, with a loss of customer confidence and respect.
- Understand Fuel Trim & Correction
- Dynamic on road testing
- Turbo system testing
- Understand Data with no DTC’s
Scan tools have limitations; know them and work around them with confidence.
Vehicle Diagnostics, Principles, Procedures & Tools
2 day course
Developed for experienced technicians with a desire to raise the level of expertise in both diagnosis and systems knowledge. This module builds on previous experience gained, but introduces a much more advanced approach to component testing, using a wide range of tools. Introducing the oscilloscope, current testing in load-bearing circuits, wave form evaluation, as well as unique tests developed by ADS and used by technicians the world over.
Common Rail Diesel Part1- Mechanical & Hydraulic Diagnostics
1 Day course
Part one introduces how to test both suction and pressure-assisted priming systems using ADS gauges, injector back leakage evaluation, smooth running correction and much more. Understand the differences in high pressure control systems and confident evaluation of serial data. Know the importance is of fuel quantity pre-stroke and what effect a faulty AMM has on load tables. This is a very important first step towards part two.
Common Rail Diesel Part 2- Electrical Diagnostics
Introducing ADS unique non-intrusive hydraulic systems testing. Within only a matter of minutes you will have complete knowledge of the high-pressure system, pump performance and system leakage. The oscilloscope test developed by ADS has simplified and revolutionised CR diagnostics. Maximise profit and minimise time with no compromise in accuracy. Introducing current measurement in control actuator circuits, understand the importance of rail pressure rise time and much more. This knowledge comes straight from our own specialist workshops .
Common Rail Diesel Part 3- Emissions & SCR Diagnostics
1 day Course
This module completes the trio of Common Rail systems training, written as a stand-alone course for those technicians with previous experience or as the finishing touch to what we believe is the most informative training programme delivered by technicians, for technicians. Share hundreds of hours of knowledge from our day-to-day experience. Passive and active regeneration explained, with service and recovery techniques, and more importantly, understanding why it failed in order to prevent repeat failure. Full instruction on how diesel emission systems work, what the various sensors do, the effects of failure on systems performance, how ammonia is created from urea and why it reduces NOx. This is the most controversial subject with a great profit potential – emission legislation is getting tougher: get tough and be ready for it!
Ignition Systems Diagnostics
1 day Course
The ignition system is one of the oldest and most complex systems on a vehicle. This course covers rotating, double-ended coil and coil on plug systems. The four critical elements: burn time, primary current ramping, coil ringing and firing line load, all explained with the aid of both scan tool, where possible, and the ultimate tool, an oscilloscope. Not all misfires are caused by ignition failure. Know how to separate other causes, understand how the ECU compensates for different fuel and load conditions. Don’t undervalue this module – it’s fascinating and very informative.
Direct Petrol Part 1- Mechanical Diagnostics
1 day Course
In my opinion, this series of courses represents the most challenging of the entire training programme. Direct petrol injection systems embrace many aspects of technical innovation:
- advanced engine design,
- variable valve timing and lift,
- cylinder select,
- homogenous and stratified fuelling control,
- multiple sensors for emission regulation,
- the high pressure system and injector technology.
Part one focuses on the mechanical systems, with diagnostics based on a range of tools. Injector testing with the ASNU system and induction system smoke pressure testing prior to fuel trim analysis.
Direct Petrol Part 2- Electrical Diagnostics
1 Day Course
Building on module part one, we focus on the application of advanced electronic test methods. Some serial instruction will be included, however the tool of choice will be the oscilloscope.
- Detailed waveform analysis of ignition,
- power and ground switched injectors,
- converting digital AMM into both analogue and current measurement,
- fuel trim and amm evaluation.
- Crankshaft magnetic reluctor
- camshaft sensor evaluation.
- Instruction will also include advanced scope triggering, filtering, and other scope skill sets.
Direct Petrol Part 3- Emission control
1 day Course
Directed towards technicians with previous diagnostic experience or having concluded part one/part two, however as a stand-alone module, including
- advanced serial data logging,
- fuel trim and rail pressure deviation.
- Flexible fuelling,
Flexible fuelling better known as biofuel, is a technology growing in popularity. However, it carries with it a lot of problems. This course explores in detail the engine, software and dual fuelling technology necessary for efficient performance. Concluding with instruction on NOx reduction systems and wide band air fuel sensors testing.
Oscilloscope Diagnostics
1 day Courses that can be provided in Basic, Intermediate & Advanced
My relationship with the scope extends over 30 years, mocked for many years in favour of the future of serial diagnostics. I couldn’t have predicted the rapid expansion in vehicle electronics, however it was obvious how vital this technology would become. With no current experts, it left a blank canvas. This was the starting point for 30 years of development – many of the techniques used across the world were pioneered & developed in our workshop. Techniques and special tools are still unique to ADS today. Scope training with ADS will introduce, develop and push the envelope, testing simple and complex components in a focused, often simple way. Acquisition and display are some of the basic tools, complimented with triggering, filtering and sampling explained. This course focuses on the use and application of the tool, complimented with further component testing techniques. Delivered as a start-up foundation course or advanced skills development.
